'Steve Johnson installs "Schrumpfende Stadte"......a reference to shrinking cities in the east of Germany, a manifestation of the wish to be someplace else.....the whole affair is being lifted up into the realm of symbolic communication   as it is explicitly not set on the ground, rather it is located way above the viewers head....removed from our direct grasp it changes its nature, becomes a dream, a wish, a longing.   His method may be called reduplicative or tautological reconstruction"
Extracts from "12am Ring" catalogue essay by Gerhard Charles Rump, Wiesbarden, May 2008
