Schippers House, part 1: "Ghost" Exploration of a Home Terrain |
| |
|
| |
One of a series on Dutch domestic environments. This is a real-time recording with no after-edits. It mediates as directly as possible my encounter with a subjectively evocative place. |
| |
The intimate adventure of penetrating an unknown family home, one in which all the usual mass-taste 'props and stage-settings' were disconcertingly shifted from the commonplace by their slightly alien Amsterdam origin. With their familiarity no longer sufficient to support their intended meanings the house seemed haunted by the fantasies that underlie their presence. |
| |
In order to convey the immediacy of the discoveries that the camera enabled, nothing which constituted that occasion is erased from the tape - the camera's behaviour, my own processes of attention, unforeseen external events - all contribute to the experience of 'being there now'. |
